a calculated mistake?

Yesterday morning the paperboy/man/woman didn't deliver DN (Dagens Næringsliv) – a Norwegian tabloid specializing in business reporting. So I called their customer service.

Apparently they didn't have newspapers to all subscribers that morning. It was something with the production....ish. But I was assured I would get the Friday-paper with the Saturday edition the next morning.

This is what I found in the mailbox today:

Two copies of the Saturday edition of Aftenposten – the other daily I subscribe to – and one copy of DN Saturday. Whatever happened to the Friday edition? How hard can it be...? I called them again.

The customer service guy thought it was very strange, because I should have received it. The system told him so. Very strange that I hadn't. Didn't know if I would get a copy (there's no Sunday edition, hence no delivery on Sundays)... So if they weren't able to deliver it later today I would get a refund.

Well, a refund doesn't really make up for the loss of information, does it now?

Methinks this might be a strategy to move people from paper to digital. If they don't come by themsleves we'll simply give the an offer they can't refuse. In tis case; cut the supply.
